Guide to Chakra Balancing With Crystals, Oils & Yoga

by Aiyana Fraley

Chakra is a sanskrit word meaning wheels of light. There are seven main chakras in the body that run along the spine. Each one is associated with different organs of the body and emotions that play an important role in the healing of our mind, body and spirit. When our chakras are blocked, prana – life force energy that makes up the spiral vortex of energy at each chakra – cannot flow. This blockage may lead to physical, emotionally and spiritually illness.

There are many ways to work with our body to balance our chakras. I use essential oils, crystals, food, and yoga to promote chakra balance. In this post, I outline suggestions of oils, crystals, food and yoga poses that can be used in combination to balance each chakra. You can use the recommended essential oil at bedtime by applying it to the soles of your feet, behind your ears or diffusing it in your room. You may also choose to use it during meditation in combination with the recommended crystals. It is not necessary to have all the crystals or even the ones I have suggested. Hold, feel, and connect to your crystals and use the one that calls to you the most during this process.

Chakras from Top to bottom: Crown, Third Eye, THroat, Heart, Solar Plexus, Sacral and Root Chakras. In my experience with chakra balancing, it is best to refrain from eating overly salty foods, avoid caffeine, refined sugars and processed foods. Avoid meats if possible and eat foods in the color of the chakras you are balancing. This is also a time to be in the presence of nature, whether it is walking barefoot on grass, hugging a tree, gardening, bird watching or enjoying the beauty of a flower.

When our chakras are balanced, we are able to flow with the waves that come our way. Our relationships are stronger, we are healthier, and our light shines brighter inspiring those around us.

Let’s explore simple ways to balance our chakras.

Root Chakra (Base)

The root chakra or muladhara is located at the base of the spine. It is the first of the seven chakras and governs our earth energy by rooting through our feet, legs and spine. This energy center grounds our spiritual energy, rules our survival instincts, mental stability and feelings of security. It is associated with the home, finances, family, and upbringing.
