How To Make Moon Water

full moon over water by Oldtime Wallpapers.

Next full moon is approaching, are you ready to harness its power for self healing and transformation?

Have you felt overly emotional, had a crying or raging episode and looked up to notice that it was a full moon? That explains it right.

The moon is the ruler of our emotions and as beings that experience life through our emotions we are deeply connected to its energy. It’s no wonder that when a full moon is approaching we can get a little crazy, sad or angry. It’s emotional energy that needs to be released and the moon is making sure it happens.

The moon is an amplifier of energy, both positive and negative, and of our sixth sense. Its energy is strongest on a full moon and it’s during this time that we can take advantage of its transformational power. Because the moon has strong cleansing properties and opens our intuitive nature, we can benefit from it’s strength by harnessing its energy in moon water.

Moon water is water that is charged by the energy of the moon. Preferably a full moon or supermoon, where the energy is heightened. If the energy of the moon has the power to transform us, imagine what it can do to our water.

For centuries, cultures around the globe have used the moon in rituals for empowerment, cleansing and manifestation. We can tap into this ancient wisdom by making our own moon water and using it to assist us in attracting more of what we need and want into our lives.

The moon water rituals I share with you below are ones that I have used and benefited from. Making full moon water is a monthly tradition in my home and I use it for everything from attracting abundance to spiritual cleansing. Moon water is easy to make and use. Here’s what you need to get started.

Make Your Own Moon Water

Full moon water by Aiyana Fraley

What you’ll need

  • Mason jar, bowl or large jug
  • Purified, spring or distilled water

Instructions

  1. Fill container with water. I prefer a jar with a lid to prevent bugs and critters from accessing it. This is especially important if you plan on ingesting your moon water.
  2. Place the jar under the full moon for the entire night. It is best if you find a spot that is not blocked by buildings or other objects to allow the moon light to penetrate the jar without obstruction.
  3. Bless your water and set your intentions. This is the time for you to pray to your higher power and ask your guides and the moon for assistance. If you are a reiki practitioner, infuse the power of reiki into the water by drawing any of the reiki symbols over the jar or channeling the energy through your hands as you hold it.
  4. The next morning your moon water is ready for use. Collect it and use in one of the 10 ways listed below.

How to use moon water

  1. Energize your crystals with moon water. Place your crystals in a jar with some moon water to cleanse and empower the crystals. Clear quartz is an amplifier of energy and can transform negative energy into positive energy. Add this crystal to the moon water for extra umph.
  2. Cleanse yourself with a moon bath. Fill the tub with warm water. Add epsom salt and a couple of handfuls of white flower petals for purification or red rose petals to attract love. Then add a few cups of moon water to the bath. I sometimes like to add crystals and essential oils to the bath too. Soak for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Drink your moon water. Take a sip or two everyday to empower yourself with the energy of the moon. Make sure you use purified, spring or distilled water if you are going to ingest your moon water, and keep it refrigerated.
  4. Use your moon water to make essential oil perfumes for yourself and home clearing sprays like this Smudge Spray.
  5. Water your plants with it. Plants will benefit from the energy of the moon.
  6. Place moon water in a cup on your altar to amplify your intentions and goals.
  7. Use it as a daily aura cleanse. Put it in a spray bottle and spray around your aura to cleanse your energy every morning before leaving your home.
  8. Moon water for beauty and self care. Use your moon water to enhance your natural beauty by making a toner with it. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil in a bottle with the moon water and use daily after cleansing your face or as a refresher throughout the day.
  9. Diffuse your moon water in your home. Place moon water into your aromatherapy diffuser with the essential oil or oils of your choice to clear the air and enhance the effect of the oils you use. For example, orange is the oil of abundance. Want more abundance in your life? Add a few drops of wild orange to the diffuser along with your moon water.
  10. Get creative and use this moon water to manifest your soul’s desire. Make your own ritual and allow the energy of the full moon to support you.

Super moon this month so mows an especially benefitial time to make this fantastic beverage! The full moon water is for spiritual purposes and you can drink it after it has been charged with the energy of the full moon. I do not know about fir flu.

Hi, what would happen if I straight up chugged a jar of moon water? I keep it next to my bed when I need to sip from it for energy but I fear one day I’ll be really thirsty and drink it all.

You can drink your moon water, just charge a bottle of clean water. You will take in all the good vibes from the moon.

Harriet Jones I actually did this with July 31st Black Moon water (while camping out in the woods) and it brought about my spiritual awakening and I think it also started opening my Third Eye, as well as promoting love and abundance, so go ahead and chug! Self-care!

Can you the spray bottle me plastic? Can you transfer the water to another bottle in order to store more of it?

Reply
Aiyana Fraley July 21, 2019 - 5:36 pm

Yes, you can use plastic. You can place plastic water bottles outside in your full moon ritual to take in the energy of the moon. If you’re adding essential oils to the plastic bottle, they need to be PET plastics or one that states it is safe for essential oils.

Can you freeze the moon water and retain its energizing qualities? I don’t always have a full moon every month so I have to make mine last for longer.

Reply

I suppose you can, I haven’t tried it before. Fresh is always better and there is a full moon every month 🙂 If you do freeze it, let us know how it works in comparison.

I made a couple jars of moon water in mason jars but never read that it needs kept refrigerated…its been in a dark cupboard. Is this still okay to drink?

Reply
Aiyana Fraley September 14, 2019 - 11:11 am

Hi Tiffany, Give it a sniff and notice if it smells like mold or mildew. I recommend putting the water in the fridge to avoid mildew from growing in it. If you fill the jar up to the top, away from light and at room temperature, it will be okay for a couple of weeks more or less. Always smell and notice any changes in the color. Thanks for your question!

I made Moon Water for the first time in a mason jar under the Blue Moon on Halloween 2020 with Clear Quatrz, Carnelian, Amethyst, Blue Calcit, Jade, Turquoise, Moonstone, Red and Rose Quartz (I maybe got a little carried away, haha) and the water smelled and looked clear up to now, 3 mos. later. I recently used it to make a facial serum with some essential oils. I have left it out on a night stand in my basement, under a large window where it is shaded and I could not believe it still looked so clear and smelled clean…aside from a slight minerally odor. I must say that the serum made my face feel like a baby’s bottom, haHA.

Reply
Aiyana Fraley April 29, 2021 - 1:39 pm

Hi Melody, I love this idea. Try keeping your serum in a dark bottle away from heat and it will last longer. Essential oils can last many years if properly kept. It sounds like your facial serum is working. I do like this combination of crystals used in your water.

Hi I put my bottle of water out when the moon was hidden behind clouds. I don’t think the position of my bottle was in sight of the moon throughout the night. Does this mean it won’t be charged.

Reply
Aiyana Fraley September 14, 2019 - 11:06 am

Hi Liz, Yes it will still receive the charge from the moon. Moon, sun and star energy moves through clouds, trees and other objects that may be blocking the view. You water is certainly charge by the moon. Thanks for this great question.

Liz September 15, 2019 - 6:07 am

Thanks Aiyana, could I also ask if its ok if my moon water was still out when the sun had rose. It was in the morning light for about 20 minutes.

Reply
Aiyana Fraley September 15, 2019 - 4:42 pm

That’s perfectly fine Liz. I do that all the time and the sun’s energy is powerful too. It gives high vibes, happiness, motivation, and power. You get the best of both worlds!

What do you think it will hold for a blue moon? Also how many hours do i need to leave it in order so it can become moon water? Can i drink all of it or a phew sips? Can i use it to manifest what i want by making it to tea and drink it?

Reply
Aiyana Fraley April 29, 2021 - 1:52 pm

Hi Kenny, good question. All of the elements of that full moon become imprinted in the essence of the water during your full moon water ritual. So if you are making moon water each month, you can label it October Blue Moon 2020. Take a look at that month’s full moon reading for the energy that is empowering that cycle. For example, this last moon in April was a Pink Moon and in Scorpio. It’s vibration was powerful for transformation, and pushing forward. Obstacles that were a hinderance prior to this Pink Moon in Scorpio are no longer as its energy is strong enough to break through. Actually, “break throughs” and awakenings are eminent with this moon. So when you make moon water those vibrations are in the water and when you use it, in any of the creative ways that come to you whether a bath, tea, spray or other, you are taking that essence in. You can drink a few sips of that water each day throughout the month or make tea with it. You can make drinking this moon water your ritual to connect to its vibration. Blessings!

Hi! Thanks for writing such useful post. But I am having a bit of a doubt:-
It’s winters here. So can the Moon water be warmed or heated a bit?
Will the Moon’s energy be lost from the water or not?

Reply
Aiyana Fraley April 29, 2021 - 1:41 pm

Hi Ayushi, this is a great question. The essence of the moon is captured in the water, so you can use it to make tea or add it to a warm bath. You can use it in cool drinks as well like making a lemonade or making a body mist and keeping it in the fridge during summer to use a cooling spray.
